Conclusions

New media is a a large contributing factor in childhood obesity. Every child should be encouraged, whether it' by parents, grandparents, or older siblings to go out and get active. Parents please be aware of the amount of time that your child spends online and using new media. You should also be cautious of the foods that they are fueling their bodies with. Eating right is just as healthy as staying active when a person is trying to stay fit. All safety precautions should be followed when dealing with children and young teens online. All of these things will help in our fight against childhood obesity.
I conducted a short survey on campus and these are some of the answers that I received.

Me: Do you think that New Media has effected the obesity rate in American children?

"I think that younger people in America are like using Facebook and twitter and stuff like that a a lot and that could definitely cause them to gain wait. If they sit around all day, that's not very good or healthy or them at all."
         Cymone Stolz-Clark, Freshman

"Yes, I mean younger kids still go outside and play and stuff but they use like cell phones and the internet way more than I did when I was a kid. I did't even have a hone back then and I was hardly ever able to get on the computer. I can really see a difference in kids today."
          Jelecia Hosang, Freshman

Me: If you were a parent would you feed your child any food that they wanted?

"No, kids don't know what is right for them and what is bad. If my child wanted to eat cake all day I wouldn't let them because I know it will make them sick, they may be mad at me but at least they're not obese or dead."
          Daniel Walcott, Sophomore

"I would give my child what they wanted sometimes, I wouldn't say no every single time they asked for a snack or like chips. All kids eat junk every now and then but I wouldn't let them just go crazy eating every single thing they wanted either, that's just too much."
         Vaughen Holland, Junior

Me: Would you say that eating healthy can reduce the risk of Childhood Obesity or eliminate it from those who are already obese?

"When you eat right you are treating your body right. I think that eating healthy is one of the top ways of preventing obesity and if you are already obese than eating the right kind of food can make you lose weight but you have to exercise too though."
         Sherrie Hanson, Junior
